Bayberry Hills Red/White Course

Bayberry IG Sample.jpg

Classic Cape Cod pine-lined track.

Design

PAR

Quintessential cape cod, fairway pines

Flat, mostly open.

Major tree removal a few years back still leaves tons of pines, but makes the course much more playable.

This review is of the Red/White Course. There is the option to play various combinations: Red/White, White/Blue, Red/Blue. (Note: the Blue Course is links-style.)

Playability

BIRDIE

The tree renovation vastly improved the playability. Instead of the tree areas being death traps, the pine needle beds make finding your ball much easier (although a punch out will be required.)

Course favors the left to right shot shape (lots of dogleg right holes.)

Large variety of overall distances / tee selection, plays as long as 7000 yards or 6100 from the whites (middle tees.)

Cart recommended: hard course to walk due to proximity of greens and tees

Very little water - which is probably good - there are plenty of trees and sand to deal with!

Views

PAR

The large geographic footprint creates some nice viewscapes, but you are basically looking at pine trees everywhere.

Vibe

PAR

Very professional, well-run course.

Sometimes staff can come off as too serious and professional for a vacationland playground.

Nice on-cart GPS adds to the higher-quality feel.

Condition

BIRDIE

Mostly lush, green fairways.

Bunkers were inconsistent, some had sand and some were rock hard.

Greens: good speed (maybe a touch slow), but true roll.

Practice Areas

EAGLE

One of the best practice areas among Massachusetts public courses: large driving range, sand area, huge putting green, separate chipping green.

Really, everything you’d want from a practice facility is all here in one place.

Massive (quite possibly our favorite) putting area with true to course green conditions.

19th Hole

BIRDIE

There’s a small patio overlooking the putting green and 18th hole with food and beverage service.

Logo

EAGLE

Shares great Masters-inspired Yarmouth golf logo with sister course, Bass River Golf Course.

Looks great on hats, shirts, and towels.

Memorability

BIRDIE

Overall Bayberry Red/White is about as solid of a Cape course as we’ve seen. It will provide a fair experience for players of all levels.

There are strong holes through but few design features that will really stick out.

The cool merch you brought will keep Bayberry in the front of your mind, but when it comes to the course, you’ll probably best remember the putting green.
