Design
PAR
Founded in 1895, only 3 years older than Cape Cod’s oldest course (Highland Links).
Rare old-world feel as course meanders through a seaside neighborhood and Chatham Bars Inn resort.
Short length should allow you to keep some clubs in the car.
Playability
BIRDIE
Tipping out at only 2249 yards, Chatham Seaside is a step above an executive course. It’s test of your accuracy, not your distance.
Contrary to the name, not very links-like. Lots of places to lose balls out of bounds in thickly wooded surroundings, private properties, and a pond.
Greens are mostly postage-stamp small, but tend to be fun and undulating.
Views
PAR
Nice sampling of classic Cape Cod course features: pine trees, marsh-like ponds, sandy traps.
While close in proximity to the ocean, you really only get ocean views from a few high points.
Vibe
BIRDIE
While certainly not the Old Course in Scotland, this course conjures up a similar town enmeshed with a golf course vibe.
It feels like the kind of course to take the kids out for a fun family round, a quick nine after the beach and before dinner, or some extra holes after playing 9 or 18 at another Cape course.
Adjacent to the famed Chatham Bars Inn, the hoity-toity vibe can sometimes bleed onto the course.
Condition
PAR
Small, fun, fair rolling greens.
The mature and natural nature leads to thick grasses throughout.
Messy bunkers.
Practice Areas
BOGEY
Just a small putting area, but given the shortness of the course, you don’t need to warm up too much anyway.
19th Hole
PAR
No food or drink served on the course, but it is not a problem when you share a property line with the Chatham Bars Inn.
Logo
BIRDIE
Simple, yet quintessential Cape Cod.
Memorability
PAR
A fun addition to a Cape Cod itinerary. If you are in Chatham for the week, avid golfers will want to add this course to the agenda - especially if time is tight.
But, if you are only going to play one course on your Cape Cod visit, there are better options for serious golfers.
You’ll likely remember the preppy Chatham vibe more than the course-specifics.
Join us on our quest to play all of the courses on Cape Cod. Here’s a handy reference of all of the public and private options. How many have you played? Which course (and logo) is your favorite?
