Chequessett Club

Design

BIRDIE

Chequessett is a good, fun track, but it is so close to being really good. Because it is set down in the marshlands on the tip of the Cape, the course can get very wet.  At worst, the course is unplayable, at best there are 8 really solid holes.

A quirky, but clever design that features 9 distinct holes carved out of the pines and marsh.  We love the multiple risk-reward moments on the often reachable par 4s and par 5s.

Some of the green complexes features diabolical fall-offs for those who miss short or on the wrong sides.

For a course that is often wet, the greens run remarkably fair.

Playability

BIRDIE

This is a perfect course for a beginner or a wily vet. The course demands true shotmaking for anyone looking to put up a number, but there’s usually a safe option to choose along the way.

This course is a very nice walk and unlike many of the Cape courses, Chequessett tends to be very easy to get onto.  When the bigger courses are packed, don’t be afraid to take the drive out to Chequessett.

Views

PAR

Because the course is set down from the street level, the primary view is the surrounding marshes and pine trees.

There’s one peekaboo view of the water from the course, but the best view is actually in the parking lot where you can see the ocean via the Chequessett Yacht Club across the street.

Vibe

BIRDIE

Don’t be intimidated by the “Yacht, Tennis, and Golf Club” moniker, this is a super accessible, fun track to play by yourself or with your best friends.

When out on the course, it feels like you’ve escaped the hustle-and-bustle of the Cape and entered your own little marshy golf sanctuary.

We think it is best paired with an additional nine at Highland Links in Truro or at Chatham Seaside in Chatham.

Condition

BOGEY

There are eight really good holes. Unfortunately, it’s a nine hole course.  One of the holes is just too low and routinely gets drowned by marshy overflow.  We think their hands are tied by environmental concerns, but it is a shame that something can’t be done to fix this problem…

Practice Areas

BOGEY

There’s a small putting green near the parking lot that’s best quality is the water view across the street.

19th Hole

BIRDIE

We absolutely love the bar that overlooks the ninth green.  It is very common to hear some (clever?) chirps about your approach shots and final putt(s).

Logo

PAR

Not the most inspiring or flashy of logos, but probably appropriate for a golf and yacht club…

Memorability

BIRDIE

Don’t let the golf and yacht club name fool you, this course is for the everyman and everywoman.

Chequessett gives locals and vacationers alike the chance to make the right mix of stock and clever golf shots that will leave you smiling and wanting to go around again.
