Falcon Golf Course

A bucolic oasis where you can leave the stresses of the regimented, demanding, serious, real world just outside of the course.

Design

PAR

Straightforward design – no gimmicks.

Interesting green complexes, with several multi-tiered greens.

Nine holes, but a lot of thought has been given to alternate tees to make your second loop seem very different.

Playability

BIRDIE

Falcon’s playability may be its greatest strength.  The very flat track makes it very walkable and playable for all age groups.

There is no water and while there are some strategically located traps, there’s not a ton of sand, so the course is very playable.

Views

BOGEY

Falcon is a typical pine tree-lined Cape Cod course, but beyond the sand and pines, there is little to remind you that you are still on Cape Cod.

The drive from the guard station to the clubhouse is more reminiscent of driving through an army base in the middle of Texas than Cape Cod!

Vibe

PAR

If Falcon was not located on the old Otis base, it would still be a fun little track, but it wouldn’t have the novel mystique that comes with having to pass security and drive through an active military base to get to the course.

Upon entering the base, it can be a little intimidating driving through multiple checkpoints and having to pass a quick background check.  But, assuming you pass the background check, the course is a little oasis of fun amidst the seriousness of the  military training exercises, and regimented barracks.

Condition

PAR

We were pleasantly surprised by the condition.  The bunkers are a bit furry and some of the fairways are a little longer than most, but the greens rolled very true.

Practice Areas

BIRDIE

Full driving range near the first green that’s very popular with base workers at lunchtime.

Small, but nice putting green near the snack bar and the first tee. We liked how the front-and-center location creates a social starting and finishing spot.

19th Hole

BIRDIE

The indoor clubhouse was closed when we were there, but the course check-in was in a small wooden shack that doubled as a snack bar.

Picnic tables in this courtyard-like area give this a poor-man’s Royal Chappy campy feel, which we like.

Logo

BIRDIE

The Falcon logo is deeply rooted in militaria and works well for this natural feeling course embedded on a base.

The logo pops the most when you see it painted on the range shack that’s very visible from the walkup to the first green.

Memorability

PAR

While the course is not dramatic or all that unique, but the overall experience is very memorable.

The drive onto the base will have you questioning whether or not you are in the right place (or even if you are still on the Cape!)

But once you find the course – you will instantly be transported to a bucolic playground where you can leave the stresses of the regimented, demanding, serious, real world behind.
