Hyannis Golf Course
Narrow fairways, elevation changes, and well-placed bunkers will test your accuracy and mental toughness.
1800 Iyannough Rd. Hyannis, MA 02601
508-362-2606
18 Holes, Par 70
Design
BIRDIE
Hilly and narrow.
Nothing is flat on this course.
Elevated tees and narrow landing areas will test your mental strength.
Well (diabolically?)-placed bunkers will come into play.
Playability
PAR
Even from the tips, it’s not a long track.
Very little water - only a small, blind (often surprising to first-timers) pond on 18.
Nearly every hole is narrow.
Thick wooded areas are treacherous - you may find a ball, but there’s no guarantee it’ll be your own. And if you do find yours, good luck getting out!
Views
BOGEY
Sure, there are great views of the tall Cape Cod pine trees on every hole, but…
Views of power lines detract from the natural beauty
Several holes are adjacent to the always busy Route 6, which doesn’t exactly have the charm of the Road Hole at the Old Course in Scotland.
Vibe
PAR
It feels like you are playing on an older, mature course. Most of the time that was a good thing, but on a few holes, not so much.
Friendly, on-course beverage service.
Clubhouse staff was all-business, but friendly.
Condition
BOGEY
Inconsistent.
Some really pristine areas, but many areas were overly furry.
Greens were nice looking, but slow.
Bunkers were well-placed and often impressive in size and depth. The sand was not the light fluffy beach sand you might expect on the Cape, rather it was dark and rocky. But, it was softer and easier to get out than it appeared.
Practice Areas
BIRDIE
Simple driving range area under some power lines.
On the range, you’ll be hitting off synthetic mats, not grass.
Nice sized putting green with some undulations.
19th Hole
BIRDIE
Huge, elevated deck off the back of the clubhouse overlooking the putting green.
Unfortunately COVID restrictions prevented us from partaking in the food and beverages this time.
Logo
BOGEY
While we certainly appreciate the use of the seagull in the logo, the clip-art nature of this one didn’t make us run to the pro shop to load up on merch.
Memorability
BOGEY
Overall, you will have an enjoyable time playing this short, but challenging course, but there are few elements about the course or experience that will stick out as memorable once you leave.
Cape Cod locals will tell you that the best value on the Cape is a membership that gets you access to both Hyannis and it’s sister course, the popular Olde Barnstable Fairgrounds.
