Mink Meadows

Among the Vineyard public courses, Mink Meadows is firmly planted in the Goldilocks Zone. For many, it will be just right.

Design

BIRDIE

The most traditional design among its Vineyard counterparts, Mink can get lost in the conversation of which courses to play when on the Vineyard. Of course, it is no Vineyard Golf Club, Edgartown, or Farm Neck, but it is a solid course with interesting holes and dare we say, maybe the best greens on the island?

Very good mix of holes as course meandered in a loop that kept things fresh throughout.

Playability

BIRDIE

A relatively flat track makes this a very walkable course.  Multiple tee options make this a very playable course for young and older players – and everyone in between.

The tee shots are relatively open, placing a critical weight upon some often tricky approach shots.  Being short or long – or left or right – can leave you in some trouble.

Views

PAR

The course is mostly tree lined, with some spots opening up to showcase the eponymous meadows.

As you turn for home, you reach the highest point on the course which provides a surprising over-tree views of the ocean.

Vibe

PAR

Among the Vineyard public courses, Mink Meadows is firmly planted in the Goldilocks Zone. It is not the high-priced country club feeling of Farm Neck and not the quirky day trip to Chappy. For many, it will be just right.

The long wooded dirt driveway really separates you from the hustle and bustle of the island and makes you feel like you’ve entered a secret playground oasis.

Condition

PAR

The course oozes maturity. Hidden in the woods, it feels like a course was meant to be here and the surrounding environment has embraced it.

Maturity shines through with the greens - this is what course creators hope happens over time when they install a green. Minks greens seem to have settled perfectly creating a firm, yet receptive surface that presents fast, yet true flat shots. There are no gimmicks in these greens - just solid surfaces that speak for themselves.

Practice Areas

BOGEY

There’s not much to speak about in terms of practice options other than the large putting green between the clubhouse, 1st, and 9th hole.

19th Hole

DOUBLE BOGEY

There is no bar or restaurant and the signs prohibiting alcohol from the course will dampen some spirits.

Logo

DOUBLE BOGEY

As bird guys, we like the bird, but it feels very generic and clip-arty. We’d like to see something a bit more unique and synonymous with the fun course experience.

Memorability

PAR

We had fairly low expectations for Mink Meadows, but the course made us do a double-take on several occasions.

While the other Vineyard courses feel like they necessitate a special occasion, Mink feels like a course you could play very day – and have a great time doing so.
