Design
BIRDIE
Designed in 1928 by Emmet and Tull (they are most known for Old Congressional in DC), this course immediately gives a feeling that you are playing something different and special. If only these greens could talk!
CCCC is just architecturally interesting.
Maybe the most memorable features are the unique green complexes. There are a ton of false fronts and tricky run-offs which makes sense as there are actually unsubstantiated rumors that Donald Ross contributed to an early redesign!
You’ll definitely notice some fun, quirky bunkering in a variety of shapes and depths.
While not exceeding long like most newer courses, the design still holds up. You need to make shots to score - as you will not overpower this course.

Playability
BIRDIE
The reasonable length and fair landing spots makes CCCC playable for everyone.
It is certainly walkable, but the elevation changes can be deceiving and lead to some awkward stances.
Tough greens demand shot making to score.
Views

CCCC does not have the dramatic surrounding views that you can find on some Cape courses, but the holes themselves are unique and interesting enough to keep your full attention: especially the volcano hole and the water surround par 3 9th.
Some sneaky elevation changes will create some interesting on-course vistas.
Vibe

The “Country Club” name may invoke thoughts of stuffiness and perfectly manicured conditions, but make no mistake, this course oozes old school, natural Cape Cod charm and character. It is very approachable and welcoming to players of all levels.
The fun factor is ratcheted up on signature holes like the volcano hole and a par 3 that brings two ponds into view.
The overall vibe was certainly dampened due to the fact that we couldn’t ignore the looming threat of a looming solar takeover. It’s really hard to block out the thought of thousands of solar panels covering up each of these great hole.
Condition

Disclaimer: we played a very early-season round where virtually nothing was green yet.
Even though it was so early in the season, the greens held up nicely! True rolls on some undulating and tricky greens. We’re looking forward to seeing how they play in the summer heat!
This is not a perfectly manicured track. Overall, the condition of the course is meant to have a bit of a natural Cape Cod feel - lots of sand and pines throughout, so even though we played in a non-peak season the fairway conditions were not far off from prime.
Practice Areas

There’s a very small putting green.
We missed it when we were there, but thanks to one of our readers who let us know that: “at the end of the parking lot there is a practice area where you can hit pitching wedges and chip shots of up to about 100 yards up to an elevated green.”
19th Hole

There’s a small “cozy” cafe with 5 or so outdoor tables that do the job when you need a sandwich, hot dog and/or beverage.

Memorability

Ever wonder what it would be like to hit a golf ball into the mouth of a volcano? The volcano hole is probably the most memorable feature of the course. In an area that prides itself on its mini-golf scene, somehow the volcano hole does not come off as gimicky and will certainly challenge your approach shot.
It is undeniable that CCCC is a memorable track. We’re hoping that we have more than just memories of this course in the future. We’re biased, but we think CCCC contributes more to the history and community fabric of the Falmouth and greater Cape Cod area than a solar farm ever will…
