Design

BIRDIE

Located in Falmouth’s murderer’s row of golf courses, the executive length Paul Harney provides such approachable, fun option for those short on time, but longing for a real golf challenge.

Playability

BIRDIE

Mostly par 3s and 6 mostly reachable par 4s. This course is a very nice walk for young or old.

Views

PAR

There are no ocean views on this inland course, so the views are mostly confined to the hole design and how each hole was carved out of the pines.   Surprisingly, the shortish course provides a remarkable variety of elevation changes which creates visually interesting holes that you could play every day and not get bored.

Vibe

BIRDIE

From the minute you drive into the parking lot and see the quintessential 1970s-style clubhouse, you know you are in for a throwback type of course.

Paul Harney was one of Massachusetts best golfers and golf ambassadors and his spirit remains throughout the course today.  The inside of the clubhouse feels like a mini Paul Harney museum, and since he was so connected to golf and the popular culture of the 60s and 70s.  Incredibly, Paul had links not just to the  golden age of golf, but also to other major sports, Hollywood, and even politics!

If you are lucky enough to meet Erin (Paul’s daughter), we recommend that you ask to see her amazing collection of pictures!

Condition

PAR

Greens are on the slower side, but they are vibrant green and roll very true.

We love the commitment to the tree lined holes, but some could use more trimming to open it up just a bit.

Readers of this page will know that we are unapologetic fans of Paul Harney’s new Superintendent, @thegreenskeepah. He’s already making a mark on the course and we cannot wait to see how he’ll continue to apply his Pocasset experience to this course to make the greens and surroundings really shine.

Practice Areas

PAR

There’s a small old-school putting green just behind the clubhouse.

There is a full range, with a unique target green in the range, but it is reserved for private lessons with the course pro and tournaments.

19th Hole

PAR

There’s not much in the way of a traditional 19th hole, but you can order drinks and snacks from the pro shop.

Pre- and post- round, we recommend perusing the walls in the clubhouse to see some highlights of Paul Harney’s illustrious career in golf!

Logo

BOGEY

We think this course is ripe for an alternate logo: something that captures the Harney legacy and conveys the modern, fun vibe that the course delivers.

Memorability

BIRDIE

This course is a lovely tribute to Paul Harney’s legacy that’s also really fun to play!

You’ll remember the fun you have attacking the par 3s, the stories of driving the par 4s, but we hope you’ll most remember Paul Harney’s pivotal role in the history of MA golf.
