Bass River Golf Course
Quintessential Donald Ross meets quintessential Cape Cod.
62 Highbank Road, South Yarmouth
(508) 398-9079
18 Holes, Par 72
Design
BIRDIE
Classic Donald Ross design
Quintessential Donald Ross greens with protected, elevated landing areas and plenty of opportunity to roll your ball off.
There are a few blind shots and some suprising swails that will likely frustrate first-timers.
Playability
BIRDIE
You don't need to be a long hitter to score well, but those with length will have plenty of birdie opportunities.
All levels of players will find this course reasonable, yet challenging.
Greens tend to be a bit on the slow side, but are fair and fun classic Ross complexes.
It’s hard to block out the water on the finishing holes that are adjacent to Bass River. Pro Tip: The River is OB.
Views
BIRDIE
The Bass River views are worth the greens fees, but we wish the river was visible from more than just a couple of holes.
A couple of holes line a fairly busy street and there are glimpses of a few backyards (we suggest you try to stay out of both the street and the backyards.)
Vibe
BIRDIE
Architecture fans will immediately feel Donald Ross' aura and impact.
Feels less corporate than Bayberry.
Condition
PAR
Not immaculate, but well groomed.
Greens are nice, but could be faster for our liking.
Almost always solid and fair.
Practice Areas
BOGEY
Small but charming putting green that overlooks Bass River.
Small chipping and sand area but in an out of the way, awkward location.
No driving range.
19th Hole
PAR
There’s a small patio overlooking Bass River.
Logo
EAGLE
Shares great Masters-inspired Yarmouth golf logo with sister course, Bayberry Hills Golf Course.
Looks great on hats, shirts, and towels.
Memorability
BIRDIE
You'll certainly remember the Donald Ross greens and the Bass River views.
Slightly shorter and easier than most of its peers (including Bayberry Hills), but we'll always remember the course's quintessential Cape Cod charm.
