Bayberry Hills Blue Course

Landfill turned links is anything but a dump!

Design

BIRDIE

If you didn’t know, you would never guess that this course was built on top of the town’s landfill.

The true links style Bayberry Blue is a refreshing departure from the tree-lined standard of other Cape Cod courses.

The starting and finishing par 3s are quality holes, but feel a bit disconnected from the rest of the links.

Bayberry Blue is co-located with Bayberry Red/White. This review is of the Blue Course. There is the option to play various combinations: Red/White, White/Blue, Red/Blue. (Note: the Red/White Courses are traditional style courses - not links-style.)

Playability

PAR

Don’t let the openness of the course fool you - there are plenty of danger spots!

The fescue varies in length throughout the year, but even when it is cut down, it is still punishing.

The first time you play, you’ll likely find it difficult to know the ideal lines. But this course will make you want to play more than once anyway.

You can certainly ride, but we highly recommend walking this nine.

Views

BIRDIE

You don’t get ocean views, but you’ll love the open expansive views of holes 2-8.

While disconnected from holes 2-8, the Par 3 ninth presents a picturesque finisher. A nice forced-carry pond seems like a fun bonus to a very different Cape Cod golf experience.

Vibe

PAR

Very professional, well-run course.

Sometimes staff can come off as too serious and professional for a vacationland playground.

Nice on-cart GPS adds to the higher-quality feel.

Condition

BIRDIE

Solid. We played late into the fall where course tend to shine, but the course and greens were solid. No complaints.

Greens: good speed, true roll.

Practice Areas

EAGLE

One of the best practice areas among Massachusetts public courses: large driving range, sand area, huge putting green, separate chipping green.

Really, everything you’d want from a practice facility is all here in one place.

Massive (quite possibly our favorite) putting area with true to course green conditions. The only (really minor) quibble is that the green was built for the Red/White course and ends up being a bit of a walk from the Blue course.

19th Hole

BIRDIE

There’s a small patio overlooking the putting green and 18th hole of the Red/White course with food and beverage service.

Logo

EAGLE

Shares great Masters-inspired Yarmouth golf logo with the co-located Bayberry Red/White courses and sister course, Bass River Golf Course.

Looks great on hats, shirts, and towels.

Memorability

BIRDIE

The unique wide-open links style makes Bayberry Blue a must play for Cape Cod golfers.

Sure, Newport National is the gold standard for links golf in New England, but if you want to experience true links style golf, Bayberry Blue is a much more approachable (and affordable) way to get a taste.
